Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a whole person approach to help people of all ages affected by injury or illness return to maximum physical function and independence.  Erica specialises in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, which is anything to do with muscles, joints, nerves, tendons and the connective tissue in between.

Tailoring treatment to your individual needs, physiotherapy helps restore and maintain health and wellbeing by improving movement and strength in the joints and muscles, reducing pain and promoting function in the body.

Treatment may include manual therapy techniques, exercises and education about the issue. By improving joint mobility and stability, improving muscle strength, posture and balance, this aims to facilitate recovery, maximise your understanding of the condition and maintain your independence.

Erica is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

What to expect

Erica will take a history of the injury and assess movement, strength and the feel of the tissues. A diagnosis will then be discussed and an appropriate technique used to resolve the issue.

For example, if it is a joint restriction, a joint technique will be applied. Or if the dysfunction is primarily held in the fascia, a fascial technique will be used. The body will then be reassessed to see if anything further is needed.

Usually a stretching and/or strengthening home exercise programme will be given to maintain the changes gained in the treatment session.

It is normal to experience some post treatment soreness, but this usually resolves within 24-48 hours.
